About the Academy

The American Academy of the History of Dentistry, a distinguished group of enthusiastic individuals representing nearly every state and many foreign countries, is a unique organization founded in 1951 to stimulate interest, study and research in the little known record of the dental profession.

Our Mission

The mission of the American Academy of the History of Dentistry is to stimulate the study and research of the development of the dental profession, to encourage the teaching of the history and ethics of dentistry and to promote the appreciation of dental history among the profession and the public.

Journal of the History of Dentistry

The Academy’s official peer-reviewed publication offers readers insightful and interesting articles on the history of dentistry. An annual subscription is included with membership.

Annual Meeting

The Academy holds an annual meeting, the premier gathering of those interested in dental history and collecting, including stimulating lectures and exhibits, fascinating tours, a banquet, a keynote speaker, and a business meeting.

Website and Wiki

The Academy has launched a new website and sponsors a discussion list where individuals interested in the history of dentistry meet online for discussion and sharing of news. Members also receive access to the AAHDWiki, an online reference library of dental history resources.
